Thanksgiving Eve date added!

Posted on Monday, November 19th, 2007 by Pat

From the “I Know It’s Short Notice But” Department ……..

The proprietors of Napper Tandy’s in Smithtown have cordially invited us to play on Wednesday evening, November 21, and we’ve cordially accepted. This will be a Happy Hour with an earlier start, we’ll begin at 5 PM and play until 9. Napper’s is located at 15 E Main St (Rt 25). Remember, we end at 9PM so don’t be late.

Obviously I apologize for the unavoidable short notice.  Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

A resounding “thank you” to all who came out to the Nags Head for Eric Curylo on Saturday afternoon. Though the turnout wasn’t overly large — about 65 people at it’s peak would be my best guestimate — the generosity was unparalled with just under 1500 dollars raised. With a lot of therapy still ahead, the money will be a big help. And speaking of Eric, he was there and looked terrific. His recovery continues to border on the miraculous and is truly inspirational. And Diane Dougal and Melissa Bliven, you should both stand up and take a bow. My apologies to anyone else I left out — I had little to do with the planning and preparation for the event — but I know the work that those two put in. Okay, you can both sit down now…….

Saturday night, November 17, we return to one of our favorite haunts, Matty T’s Roadhouse, 356 Commack Road, Deer Park. There’s a little line-dancing going on during our set and a lot of it on our breaks when Chet Austin spins contemporary country music, but it most certainly isn’t a prerequisite for attendance. The people are very friendly and its a great atmosphere. Like I said, it’s one of our favorites. We’ll get underway at 10 PM.

And since Matty’s will be our last public date in the month of November I would like — on behalf of myself, Jim, and Eddie — to wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving. I’ve said it every year but it merits repeating: one of the things we’re thankful for is folks like you who take the occasional time out of their busy lives to come and see us play. Your support is appreciated and never taken for granted.

I will speak with you soon.

On Saturday, November 10 at 1 PM, we’ll be playing in Huntington at Nags Head Ale House, 396 New York Ave, in the hopes of raising money for our good friend, Eric Curylo.

As most of you regular readers now know, Eric was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on July 4th. His continued slow recovery to regain the most basic of motor and brain function, while remarkable in itself, has left him with a mountain of medical bills and an uncertain future with regard to being able to work to pay them.

The event will run from noon until 5:30, and we’ll play from 1 PM until 5. The suggested admission is 15 dollars, but no one will be turned away who can only contribute less. The Nags Head will graciously be donating a buffet spread and charging Happy Hour prices, and there will be a 50/50 raffle as well as raffles to give away the numerous gift certificates donated by local merchants. All tips to the bartenders and the band will be donated, also. Finally, if you can’t make the gig but still want to contribute you can do so by mailing any amount to “Eric Curylo c/o Bliven, 7 Waverly St., Huntington Station, NY, 11746.” You can make the checks out to “Eric Curylo.” Jim, Eddie, and myself have come to know Eric pretty well over the years — this is a chance to help someone who not only needs it, but truly deserves it.

On the eve of the “Ericfest”, Friday the 9th, you can catch us at Napper Tandy’s, 275 RT 25A, Miller Place where we’ll play a Happy Hour from 7ish until 10. In past years there has always been a band after us, but a quick perusal of their website only shows us playing there, so I can’t say for sure.

Finally, on Saturday night, November 17, we’re back at Matty T’s Roadhouse, 356 Commack Road, Deer Park, a place that we love and never seem to play often enough. That one will get underway at 10 PM.

And that’s it for this week, hope to see many of you Saturday afternoon in Huntington!
