Weekly Update

Posted on Monday, September 22nd, 2008 by Pat

We open the Fall season with a happy hour this Friday, September 26, at Napper Tandy’s, 275 RT 25A, Miller Place. We start as close to 7 PM as we can — the traffic between Bellmore and Miller Place for yours truly will dictate that –and play until 11.

The next public dates are a happy hour at Napper Tandy’s, Smithtown, on Friday October 10, followed by an interesting double header on Saturday October 11. On that date we’ll open the John Lennon Birthday Celebration at Five Towns College in Dix Hills at 7:30 PM and immediately head over to Matty T’s in Deer Park for a regular gig at 10 PM. I’ll elaborate more on that next time.

Thanks to all who showed up in Greenport yesterday, it made for a wonderful close to the season. Talk to you next week.

Weekly Update

Posted on Monday, September 15th, 2008 by Pat

As Summer draws to a close, and with good weekend weather in the forecast, we’ll be playing our final outdoor dates of the season.

It starts on Friday, September 19 with a gig at Freeport’s Hudson & McCoy, 340 Woodcleft Avenue. We start at 7 PM and finish at 11 sharp.

On Sunday, September 21, we’ll play our final scheduled date of the year at Claudio’s, 111 Main Street, Greenport. This is the weekend of Greenport’s Maritime Festival so there are a host of other things to do and see in the town. We’ll be playing on the outdoor deck from 1:30 until 5:30.

On Friday, September 26, we return to Napper Tandy’s, 275 RT 25A, Miller Place, playing from 7 PM until 11.

Thanks as always for your support, have a good week.

Weekly Update

Posted on Monday, September 8th, 2008 by Pat

This weekend’s gigs are private but the big news for us is that we’re singing the National Anthem at Shea Stadium on Sunday, September 14, prior to the 1:05 PM game between the Mets and the Atlanta Braves. This will be the sixth and the final — Shea is being torn down after the season — time we’ve had this honor. They’ve never televised the performance the previous five times, preferring to show a commercial instead, but perhaps the sixth time will be the charm. The game is on the WB-11.

Our next “regular” date will be on Friday, September 19, when we try to get one in at Hudson & McCoy, 340 Woodcleft Avenue, Freeport without a tropical storm getting in the way. We’ll start at 7 and play until 11.

Then on Sunday September 21st we move back out east to play what is scheduled to be our final date of the year at Claudio’s, 111 Main Street, Greenport. This is the weekend of Greenport’s Maritime Festival, the streets are closed to automobile traffic and the shopkeepers sell their wares on the sidewalk. We start at 1:30 and play until 5:30.

Have a great week.

Shea Date and a Cancellation

Posted on Monday, September 1st, 2008 by Pat

Lotsa stuff to mention this week and I’ll start, unfortunately, with a cancellation. The Napper’s Smithtown date on September 12 that I first mentioned in last week’s e-mail has been cancelled. The first Napper’s date of Autumn will be September 26, in Miller Place. The first Smithtown date is in early October instead. Sorry for the misinformation.

Next up is our 2008 debut at Hudson & McCoy, 340 Woodcleft Avenue, Freeport . We’re there this Saturday evening, September 6, from 7 PM until 11. The gig is weather permitting — should you need to confirm you can call the club at (516)868-3411 — but we always try to soldier on even if there’s a little rain as the stage and most of the bar area is covered.

And perhaps the biggest news this week is that we will be singing the National Anthem, a Capella of course, at Shea Stadium prior to the Mets/Braves game on Sunday, September 14, at 1:05 PM. This is the sixth consecutive year we’ve been invited to perform, it’s our first as a quartet, and it will be all the more poignant with Shea being torn down at the conclusion of the 2008 season. We’re gonna miss the leaky, mildew-smelling, green room behind home plate that we’ve used since 2003 and hopefully we’ll find better accomodations in ‘09 at Citifield.

Lastly, our young buck Joe DeJesu has created a myspace page for the band, you can visit it at www.myspace.com/xsessionmusic. Of course, our regular website still resides at www.xsessionmusic.com. And while I’m at it, it’s been a while since I’ve mentioned the folks who maintain that website for us, High Aspirations, Inc. If you have a need for website design and/or hosting, they come highly recommended. You’ll find them at www.highaspirationsinc.com.

OK, I’m pooped from all the html language this e-mail contains so I’ll sign off. Have a good week, see you soon.
