X-Session, Unfiltered

The summer season commences this weekend as we head upstate to Highland Falls for a private date at West Point on Friday and then take our private plane to the North Fork (ok, maybe we’ll drive, I think our plane is in the shop) for our first gig of the year at Claudio’s, 111 Main Street, Greenport. We’ll be playing on their outdoor deck from 1:30 until 5:30 on Saturday, May 23.  As is customary at Claudios on the holiday weekends, we’re playing on Saturday as opposed to our normal Sunday afternoon slot.

Our next public date after that will be on Saturday June 6 when we play at Napper Tandy’s, 229 Laurel Avenue, Northport from 10 PM until 2 AM. Then later that morning we head back to Claudio’s for a 2 PM gig on Sunday June 7th. Hopefully the plane will be out of the shop by then….:)

Looking further down the calendar in June there are dates at Matty T’s on the 13th, Freeport’s Hudson & McCoy on the 20th, and Claudio’s yet again on the 21st.

On Friday, May 15, we play our last happy hour of the Spring at Napper Tandy’s, 15 E. Main Street, Smithtown. We’ll be there from 7 until 11.

There are private dates on Saturday the 16th and Friday the 22nd, but on Saturday afternoon, May 23, we make the first of seven scheduled appearances this season at Claudio’s, 111 Main St., Greenport. We’ll be playing from 1:30 PM until 5:30 on this holiday-weekend afternoon.

Our next public dates after the holiday are a Saturday night gig at Napper Tandy’s, Northport on June 6th and a return to Claudio’s on Sunday afternoon, June 7th.

Although it seems as though Auld Lang Syne is still ringing in my ears it’s already May and therefore time to finish up the Happy Hour season at Napper Tandy’s. We have a pair of them over the next two Fridays beginning with a date at Napper Tandy’s, 275 RT 25A, Miller Place, this Friday May 8.  A week later,  the 15th, we’ll be at Napper Tandy’s, 15 E. Main Street, Smithtown. Both nights we begin sometime between 7 and 7:30 and finish about four hours after. As mentioned these will be our last dates there until the Fall.

On Saturday, May 9, we’ll be at Matty T’s Roadhouse, 356 Commack Road, Deer Park. Yes Matty’s is a country bar and no, we’re not a country band but our stuff seems to go over well with the line dancers and there’s plenty of room to sit and listen if you like. I highly recommend Matty’s if you’ve never been there — the regulars are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet and I love the acoustics and the stage there. We play from 10 until 2 and they do charge an 8 dollar cover but hey, we’re worth at least half that, right?

And I see the Memorial Day weekend is on the horizon and with it comes our first date of the season at Claudio’s, 111 Main Street, Greenport. On Saturday May 23, we’ll be on the outdoor deck from 1:30 until 5:30. It’s become like a “home away from home” there for us each summer.

Finally, I’d like to mention for all you Jazz aficionados out there that my friend Bob Lepley and his trio host a Jazz open mic each and every Monday evening at The Fox Hollow Country Club from 8 PM until 11. The Fox Hollow is located at 7725 Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury. You can either go for dinner — it’s served from 5 until 10 PM — or just go for drinks and enjoy the music or, of course, bring your instrument and request to sit in.
