I’m sorry for the short notice but the gig listed on the website for Saturday March 10 at Napper Tandy’s has been cancelled. No one’s fault but mine here, I knew it for several weeks but neglected to remove it. I’m very sorry.

Claudios October 9th!

A very favorable weather forecast and a holiday weekend have brought on a “bonus” gig at Claudio’s. We’ll be there–111 Main St., Greenport–on Sunday afternoon October 9 at 1:30 PM. And don’t forget that we have a special Lennon/Beatles tribute tomorrow night, October 7, at KJ Farrell’s, 242 Pettitt Ave., Bellmore, at 7PM.

Weekly Update

On Friday October 7, X-Session will play a tribute to the music of John Lennon and the Beatles at KJ Farrell’s, 214 Pettit Ave, Bellmore. This is a larger, five-piece, band and we’ll get underway at about 7 PM. Immediately after us, the band Wondrous Stories will play a similar tribute to the songs of Paul McCartney. There will be a 10 dollar cover at Farrell’s that night.

We have a happy hour date in October as well. On Friday the 21st we’ll be at Napper Tandy’s, 15 E Main St., Smithtown at 7 PM.

I also have a solo date at La Bottega, 4883 Merrick Rd., Massapequa Park on Tuesday September 27 at 6:30 and I’m at Greek Delight, 2601 Merrick Rd., Bellmore every Thursday except October 13th for the forseeable future.

Weekly Update

I hope this this e-mail finds you all safe and sound as the post-Irene cleanup begins. In fact I hope that this e-mail finds you at all if– like me–you’re without power. Thank goodness for my iPhone and car charger.

As summer marches towards it’s Labor Day Weekend conclusion, we prepare for our penultimate date at Claudio’s, 111 Main St. Greenport, on Saturday afternoon, September 3rd at 2 PM. This is also our last public date until we return to play at Claudios on the weekend of the Maritime Festival, Saturday September 24th. Matt Schilling will be with us for these dates, I believe.

I will be playing and singing solo at Greek Delight, 2601 Merrick Rd. Bellmore every Thursday evening at 6:30 and I’ll be at La Bottega, 4883 Merrick Rd. Massapequa Park on Tuesdays September 13th and 27th, likewise at 6:30 PM.

Have a good week. Let’s hope for a quick resolution to the power issues.

John Lennon tribute

We would like to thank all of the folks who came down to the Beach this past Saturday for the John Lennon tribute. The crowd was estimated at about 800 or so and between the turnout and the weather it was everything we could have hoped for and more! Even the pigeon that spent some time in our dressing room seemed to enjoy it

Rock’n'Roll Under The Clouds

So there we were: Joe, Jim, Ed, Joe the soundman and myself–two hours before the scheduled 7:30 start time watching the rain come down and thinking there was no way we’d be able to play. The iPad satellite image did nothing to encourage us, so at 6:15 I posted here and on Twitter that it was a no go. Then almost immediately, the heavy rains in the satellite picture made a hard right turn and moved south of us, the sun started to poke through the clouds and, most significantly, folks started showing up with lawn chairs and blankets.

Joe the sound guy was rightfully concerned about plugging in his equipment–it had been sitting under tarps through the heavy rains and it wouldn’t be a good idea to power it up now. So, without a PA to use, we took stock of the equipment we had in our vehicles and decided to wing it. We used Ed’s bass amp as the PA while Ed plugged the bass into a smaller back-up amp he had, Joe and I plugged guitars into my amp, and Jim threw together a small percussion setup reminiscent of the early X-Session days.

The unorthodox setup made for a fresh sound to songs we’ve done numerous times in more conventional fashion, and soon the crowd was dancing next to us on the deck–standing water be damned.

Most importantly, the rains held off as the satellite image foretold, and the improbable quartet played on until 10 PM. It made for one of the more memorable evenings in the 16 years or so this band has been together.

And then, to put the coda onto a wonderful evening, I was treated to an amazing light show in the sky the entire ride home, soon followed by torrential rains that no longer were a cause for concern.

All in all, an unforgettable evening.

If you’re in the vicinity of Greenport on Monday night come down to Mitchell Park (where the carousel is on Rt 25). X-Session plays a free concert there beginning at 7:30.

For those of you who are members of the Sun&Surf Beach Club in Atlantic Beach, we’ll be playing at the official opening there tomorrow evening, June 25th, from 7 until 11. We will be playing A’s a trio in the bar area.

And, as the holiday weekend approaches, Sunday July 3rd will find us at Claudio’s, 111 Main St, Greenport–again as a trio–from 2 PM until 6.
